21_21 Design Sight
Tadao Ando – aka the man who launched a thousand minimalist concrete studded walls – is among the nation’s most revered architects. For a taste of his signature modern style at its best, visit 21_21 Design Sight, a design museum set in the manicured green Truman Show-style grounds of the Roppongi’s Tokyo Midtown development.
Here, sloping concrete walls and expanses of glass create the perfect urban backdrop for a creative rostrum of design exhibitions. With the museum’s directors including fashion designer Issey Miyake and iconic product designer Naoto Fukasawa, the establishment has impeccable design credentials.
Exhibitions are often themed – Water, Chocolate and Bones are among the subjects of previous show – and involve some of the best established and up-and-coming design talents. Go to admire both the building and its unwaveringly creative contents.
