Somewhat of an alien, it’s cherished for its casual vibe and does big business pouring pints to thirsty TV sports fans. There are three levels with three bars to choose from. The ground-floor diner has a polished wood finish and a selection of pub fare including BLTs, burgers and nachos.
Upstairs has an outdoor patio with a smoking antechamber, where the thatched bar serves pitchers of the 24 beers on tap (on hot days, pipes spray a fine mist to keep patrons cool and in the winter the rooftop is heated). A third bar and patio looks down onto trendy Cumberland Street.
The place is heaving with sports memorabilia and there’s a veritable shrine to the 2005 England rugby team.
