Hg2 : The Hedonist

Pravdka Vodka

Pravda – a Slavic word for ‘truth’ – was the title of the Soviet Union’s communist newspaper. This vodka bar on the edge of the business district takes the Russian theme and runs, vaults and flips with it.

Like a two-tiered slice of kitsch, the interiors are splashed with red velvet, gilt, chandeliers and a collection of framed communist icons. To further hammer the point home, the paraphernalia includes flags and banners, samovars and countless Russian dolls.

Comfort is key in this drinking den: chairs are like thrones and patterned sofas are scattered with cushions, so you can kick back, scoff caviar and wash it down with one of their 70 vodka varietals. Squeeze into the tasting fridge for a shot, to buy or to try if your flash friend owns the bottle. DJ Michel spins lounge tunes, which can easily escalate to bums-off-seats.
