Rua Vang Golden Turtle
Don’t expect glitz and glamour: the decorative flourishes here don’t amount to more than plastic flowers and the odd hanging red lantern. This place is hailed as honest, authentic, MSG-free Vietnamese food served by a family of staff (with varying degrees of interest in their occupation.). There’s seating for 40 inside and a further 20 outside, and it reaches capacity at lunchtime.
The vast menu features 180 items including spring rolls, congee, noodle dishes et al, but what it’s famous for is the ‘famous rare beef Pho’. Your order arrives in milliseconds, presented in a bowl teaming with spring onions, chilli, ginger and noodles, with a side dish of bean sprouts and lime leaves. It’s healthy, nutritious, fast and cheap. What’s not to like?
