Windsor Arms
That’s why it attracts a discerning yet diverse clientele from rap stars to royalty to Roberts (Julia). Its owner, George Friedmann, kept original Victorian features – the stone portico entrance and the stained-glass windows – but attached a tower of condos and 28 suites that opened in 1999.
A palette of olive green and cream, finished with mahogany furnishings and large limestone bathrooms, creates a gentlemen’s den-style cosiness in the rooms. A butler’s pantry – a double-access cubbyhole – stylishly eliminates the need to open the door for room service, etc. All whims are catered for here: steak at Prime restaurant, spa treatments (see Play), a classic Martini bar, a café and trio of charming tearooms replete with ornate hats to borrow. Its subtle location, a short walk from the razzmatazz of Yorkville, is a big part of its cachet.
