Hg2 : The Hedonist

Foxley has an informal bistro vibe supported by an affordable, exciting menu and wine list that has cultivated and kept a devoted following, something that at time appears rare among restaurants in Toronto.

An intimate space with warm wooden floors, brick walls and hanging red tea lights, it’s cosy for the winter and has a patio out back for the summer. It doesn’t take reservations, though, so the young, cheerful staff does its best to manage the queues (but there are plenty of bars about for a time-killing drink).

With roots as a sushi-chef, Tom Thai’s flavours circumnavigate the globe. The offerings are small (although not quite tapas-tiny) and are designed for sharing. His signature raw plates make an appearance, like sea bream ceviche with yuzu and shiso leaf. Frog’s legs are a surprise, and both the sticky side ribs with a shallot glaze and spicy crispy shrimp with jalapeno and garlic are a taste explosion.
