Clean, wooden interiors characterise La Gougra, which is one of the smallest restaurants in Val d’Anniviers, serving up a menu of traditional mountain food to just 25 lucky diners. Local specialties incorporate all the usual suspects, but it is Madeleine’s famous fondues that has the foodies flocking. There are over a dozen varieties on offer, matched only by an extensive Swiss wine list that would get even the booziest booze-hound sozzled. While you certainly won’t find gourmet grub here, you will find value for money and variety. And variety, as they say, is the spice of life.
