Zinal boasts some of the highest runs in Val d’Anniviers, with the lifts going up to just under 3,000-metres. As you’d expect, Zinal has a dedicated freeride area just a short traverse out from the Combe Durand lift; to access this zone come equipped with a shovel, probe and transceiver – and more importantly, know how to use them. For the best runs, ski the face all the way to the bottom rather than cutting back to the middle station. A 45-minute hike from the freeride zone will take you past the next ridge and back out of the controlled zone to the Combe de Singlinaz. From there you can embark down a huge face followed by a couloir that leads you on a long and superb route back to Zinal. Simply wonderful.
