The XV Bar
Rugby-lovers will be right at home at The XV Bar, one of the most popular places to drink in Val d’Isere, which is half-mountain hut and half-rugby club dressing room. The rugby theme continues through to the rugby ball-shaped beer glasses, with big, burly men downing pints of the golden stuff from them, while matches are shown on large screens dotted around the bar.
The French squad train in Val d’Isere during off-season, and their autographed pictures hang in the bar. Thankfully, the menu isn’t all macho meat but rather delicate pasta dishes; there’s also a cocktail menu for those not into beer, with expertly-mixed drinks such as Pina Colada, Bloody Mary, White Russian and Tequila Sunrise. There are happy hours, of course, and a choice of warming liqueurs to wrap things up. For the night, probably.
