L’Aiguille Percée

A notable landmark looking down over Tignes Le Lac is L’Aiguille Percée – a needle of rock with a large hole worn through it – that dominates the skyline around 2,800-metres up, from here you can ski some of the most challenging runs in Val d’Isere. Reach it from Tignes via the Aiguille Percée chair, or the Marais chair from Les Boisses or Les Brévières.

The way down for off-piste enthusiasts is the Vallon de la Sache, which descends more than 900-metres back to Brévières. Another challenge is to stay on-piste and come down the black Sache run, which weaves down 1,250-metres to the same destination. The Sache is frequently closed due to poor conditions – ice can be a problem on a shady slope – but like the Sarenne in Alpe d’Huez, it is a must-do for the serious skier.
