Hg2 : The Hedonist

Kronenhalle

A seductive little space adjoining the most famous
restaurant in Zürich
. Back in the day, Gustave Zumsteg was determined to create a place so beautiful “that
women would want to visit it on their own”. Only the best would do; so the
tables were designed by Alberto and Diego Giacometti, the lamps were modelled
on those from Palais Fürstenberg in Paris, chairs are covered in morocco
leather, the walls in green billiard cloth and the ceiling from immaculate teak.
And that’s before you get to the art.

This is the only place in town to sip
martinis under a Miró, Picasso, Chagall or Klee. A slice of old world elegance,
the bar has sensuous curves and vaguely nautical feel. The cocktail list is as classic
as the space, starting with martinis, it moves logically through aperitifs, digestifs, then on embrace
each spirit in turn. A popular spot for drinks, the crowd tend to be smartly
attired, in a homage to the elegant surrounds.
