Plaza Cava Aperobar
Formerly a cinema bar, Plaza Cava’s star is most firmly in the ascendant. Starting life as Plazda Cava (Plazda means ‘sit here’), it changed its name in 2010 when Plaza Club opened in the old cinema next door. Gently popular all week with a post-work crowd, the scene takes off at the weekend when the club draws Zürich’s most fashionable to Kreis 4.
Style-wise, it’s a cut above other bars in the area, eschewing a thrown together vibe, Plaza Cava has newspapered walls, statement lighting and a giant wine rack. They serve a decent range of wines, beer and cocktails; signature drinks include cava, which can be accompanied by a plate of meatballs in tomato sauce for the peckish and a devilish array of shots – the ‘snowbike’ (concocted from a secret recipe and covered in cream), ‘Mars’, ‘Snickers’ and ‘Milky Way’ – chocolate miracles all three.
