Café Schober

There are many reasons to visit Café Schober, for us it’s the amazing apfel strudel served with a freshly made warm vanilla sauce but you may beg to differ. A feast to the eyes as well as the tummy, the first thing you’ll notice is cakes, cakes and more cakes, all displayed to diet-busting effect on the white counters and glass fronted cupboards.

Clearly Café Schober are not subscribers to Marie Antoinette’s famous maxim, also on offer are great breakfasts, salads, sandwiches and delicious flammeküche (an Alsatian take on pizza). The café’s philosophy is to bring together the best of the best, hence pastries come from French chef Patrick Mésiano, Honold La Confiserie supplies the truffles and the tea and coffee selection is from neighbouring Schwarzenbach.

Choose between four elegantly decorated rooms; the Colonial Café with its stunning handmade tapestry, the plushly intimate Salon Rouge, the classically elegant Züristube and the more traditional ground floor. The outside terrace is popular summer and winter (when sheepskins are thoughtfully provided to keep bottoms toasty warm).
