Confiserie Sprüngli
Flagship of the confectionary empire founded by David
Sprüngli in 1836, no trip to Zürich would be complete without swinging by this
Paradeplatz landmark for a mid-morning coffee and Luxembergli, light, airy
macaroons that come in a host of exotic flavours.
The downstairs café is a chic
narrow space recently given a modern gloss by Swiss architect, Stefan Zwicky,
with dark wood, leather seating and smart glass display cases; in summer, the
proliferation of tables on the wide pavement outside are taken over by a glamorous
crowd, soaking up the sun with a mid-morning prosecco.
Upstairs, the restaurant has a more traditional feel,
with lots of wood, black clad waitresses and huge windows giving panoramic
views of Paradeplatz and Bahnhofstrasse. Round off one of their excellent
breakfasts or delicious lunches (salads, sandwiches and some more robust daily
specials) with a delicious arabica coffee – try it Parade-style with a shot of Amarula
and cream. Don’t leave without stopping by the elegant shop to stock up on
Luxembergli and delicious freshly made truffles.
