Pumpstation
A popular summertime lakefront grill, Pumpstation is
responsibly for launching two icons of the local restaurant scene. First off is
Michel Péclard, restaurateur behind Fischer’s Fritz, Coco’s and Café Schober.
Wandering down Utoquai in 1998, Michel came across a tumbled down pump station
and decided a ‘beer and sausages’ sort of place was just what Zürich needed.
And indeed it was, from May-September, Pumpstation is packed out with laid back
lunchers basking in the sunshine and feasting on locally produced sausages, baby
spare ribs in a ‘secret’ marinade, chicken, baked potatoes with sour cream and
array of salads all expertly cooked by icon number two, the ‘grill-master’,
Baba.
Laid back and uncomplicatedly cool, Pumpstation’s charm is its wonderful
lakeside location and simple concept; grab a seat at one of the wood tables,
order a beer or two and watch tout Zürich
wandering down Utoquai.
