Eden au Lac
One of the smartest hotels in Zürich, the Eden au Lac has been a favourite of
financial bigwigs and other visiting VIPs for close to 100 years.Behind the impressive neo-baroque façade of this finest of Zurich hotels is a study in classically elegant hotel luxe. Small in size (just five suites and 45 rooms) but not in stature, most of the rooms have a balcony and fantastic lake views.
Eminent Zürich architect Jo Brinkman designed the rooms: a traditional, timeless aesthetic of warm wood, light colours, graceful furniture and pristine bathrooms with Molton Brown goodies. Particularly popular are the first floor Business suites, which have positively huge stone balconies and the fifth floor Junior Suite (room 510) that has a working fireplace and great views. There are some nice touches elsewhere: throughout the hotel are original works of art from Alfred Kofkunst and Paul Leber, bringing a pleasing touch of modernity, and all rooms come with a small box of Luxembergli from Confiserie Sprügli (see Snack), binoculars for lake-gazing and coffee machines.
On the roof is a guests-only roof terrace bar with stunning, tree-fringed views of the lake and city. It shuts as a bar in winter and becomes one of Zürich’s most atmospheric dining experiences with a few well wrapped-up diners enjoying fondue.
