Kameha Grand Zurich
Living up to its name, the Kameha Grand Zurich is, indeed, grand. Found in Glattpark, a green development project in the Opfikon District, this 245-room behemoth leaves you in no doubt that you’re in Switzerland through its design. Think: chocolate wall treatments, watch-themed accessories, and, not to put too fine a point on it, money (in some cases, coins are literally stuck onto the walls). But, throughout, the vision, like the execution is lavish.
In addition to the spacious standard rooms, there are numerous Marcel Wanders-designed themed suites. There’s the Serenity Suite (a yogi’s dream, with yoga mats and an all-white scheme), the James Bond-inspired Gentleman Suite (complete with whiskey bar hidden in a globe) and the Burlesque Suite (with a giant bed; enough said). And upping the style ante is the Space Suite, designed by artist Michael Najjar, which brings together everything a space enthusiast could dream up, from movies to model rockets.
If you don’t opt for the Workout Suite (yes, there is one – it has its own treadmill), never fear; the hotel has a “Fitness Power House”, which includes state-of-the-art workout equipment, saunas and a spa. But for those who are more concerned with putting on calories than taking them off, the hotel has two on-site restaurants: Restaurant L’Unico offers Italian cuisine, with an emphasis on freshly-made pasta, while the Michelin-starred fine dining establishment, Restaurant You, mixes French and Asian influences in its haute cuisine.
