Romantik Hotel Florhof
One of the most atmospheric hotels in Zürich, Provençal chic lurks behind the blue façade and dark painted shutters of this charming 16th century house. Home to Zürich’s great and good over the years, it became an hotel in the 60’s, a decorative legacy that Brigitte & Beat Schiesser-Hesperger took great pleasure in tearing out when they came to the helm in the mid-90’s.
Brigitte and Beat’s redesign is stylishly traditional, with plenty of French furniture, print, pattern and eclectic objets giving it the atmosphere of a family home – a feeling reinforced by the excellent, personal service. The single and double rooms have striped wallpaper and plenty of print. These rooms are quite old school but a forthcoming renovation will bring them up to date. Romantics will love the superbly maximalist junior garden suite and the deluxe city double room nestling in the attic.
But the Florhof comes into its own downstairs, with a renowned restaurant, charming lounge, verdant terrace and seductive guests-only garden where you can relax in the sun listening to musicians from the neighbouring Music Academy. A little distance from the centre, the Florhof is a stone’s throw from Zurich’s major art museum, the Kunsthaus.
