Heugümper
The interior might be a cool composite of dark brown wood,
cream panelling and grey leather but the welcome from owner Pamela
Pfoster couldn’t be any warmer. A step away from Paradeplatz,
Heugümper has a cosy, laid-back charm that has kept diners coming back for 10
years.
The inventive lunch menu changes daily, offering meat, fish, vegetarian,
cold and ‘wild’ options all at a reasonable 25-30 CHF with a seasonal menu
served in evenings. Chef René Suter creates light, Swiss fusion dishes;
Zander fillet with a green thai curry sauce, scallops with a lemon thyme
risotto and veal with a herb cream sauce and rösti, supplemented by a short, diverse and reasonably priced wine
list.
Excellent, English-speaking waiters bend over backwards to translate,
help and explain. In common with most restaurants in the area, the crowd at
lunchtime is work-focused, with a stylish local scene in the evenings. Chic
though it is, the décor and layout of the restaurant work better in winter,
when it’s a sleek little haven, than in summer, when securing a table in
their small garden / terrace is essential.
