A tour de force in
industrial chic, LaSalle was one of the first restaurants to bring high-end cool
to edgy Kreis 5. Part of the imposing Schiffbau, a former ship-building
factory, alongside a theatre, Moods club and bar, the restaurant is
housed in a stunning glass cube.
Relentless perfectionism by partners Claudine Brunner,
Walter Schmidt and Peter Kern has kept LaSalle at the top of its game for 10
years and it still draws in a glamorous crowd of well-heeled locals.
Schmidt’s kitchen turns out delicious French cuisine, with some interesting
international influences; tender scallops with mango and avocado, quayside
fresh tuna with an Asian marinade followed by beef stroganoff, calves liver or perfectly cooked lamb entrecôte, served up with a smile by
friendly waiters. Round off the evening with a digestif in the restaurant’s striking rooftop Nietturm bar.
