Swiss National Museum Zürich
Built in the late 19th century, the dramatic
Landesmuseum is as near to a fairytale castle as you will find in Zürich.
Purpose built as a museum by Gustav Gull, he combined late medieval and, at the
time, contemporary features in its design.
The museum houses a permanent exhibition
of Swiss history; split thematically into migration and settlement, religious,
intellectual, economic and political history, everything is imaginatively
displayed and is, dare we say it, surprisingly interesting.
They also have an
extensive selection of Swiss design, focusing on furniture, interiors and
craftsmanship from the late 19th century to the present. In
addition, they host rotating thematic exhibitions and events.
