Hg2 : The Hedonist

Collette Lyons

A pathological hatred of ‘staycations’ (her family did it before it was cool – or fun) meant that as soon as it was possible to get on a plane unaccompanied – without an escort and a special badge – Collette was disappearing off to wherever would have her. A pre-university stint at Junior magazine, attempting to prevent babies pissing on the Hermés cashmere at cover shoots, was followed by a degree in art history and theology at Cambridge, which proved great value at dinner parties but essentially useless. A career in magazines beckoned and Collette has since lived in London, Sydney and Dubai and worked for the likes of Grazia, Happy, The Guardian, Sunday Times Style and the Telegraph Magazine. She loves turning left on a plane, but loathes getting the seat that won’t recline, right at the back near the loos, next to the bloke with swine flu (far more usual). What makes her a hedonist? “A dogged determination to ignore hangovers at all costs.”
