Hg2 : The Hedonist

Danielle Demetriou

Danielle spent nine years writing for national newspapers in London before dreams of cherry blossom and sushi lured her to Tokyo in 2007. Now living in a pink apartment building along a cherry tree-lined river in Nakameguro and eating as much sushi as is humanly possible (when not working for publications including Monocle, Daily Telegraph, The Independent, Metro International, Japan Times and Condé Nast Traveller). She loves raw fish, tiny bars, yuzu fruits, Okinawa, ginger tea, winter sunshine, mochi sweets and sento sessions at the local bathouse with Sunday night grannies, but loathes packed salarymen trains, tax returns and cod testes (quite a delicacy in Japan). What makes her a hedonist? “Living on the opposite side of the world from my editors works wonders for those who, like me, are allergic to conventional office life.”
