111 Minna Gallery
111 Minna Galllery is one of the growing number of mixed art galleries and clubs in San Francisco and is situated in an alley just south of Market and the attraction began here with Qool, a Wednesday evening happy-hour party. From its modest beginnings, word spread quickly and soon the crowd of casually dressed downtown dot-com kids gave way to an influx of people from all over the city and beyond. 111 Minna expanded and began offering more evening events to accommodate them. Now, the schedule features happy hour, often accompanied by live music and a regular array of top DJs hosted by some of the city’s best-known party throwers. It’s generally very stylish, especially given its art gallery location. The mood can be snooty, but it is mostly friendly and welcoming. Without a doubt, this is the place for a downtown drink among the young, trendy, and gainfully employed after work. Art openings and special events are frequent. Live music is a definite possibility when the DJ isn’t spinning. Expect the eclectic, from surf rock to skate punk. Beware the giant metal fly overhead.
