Ackselhaus & Blue Home
Two houses form this apartment hotel in Berlin: the first more traditional and the second overtly modern. Over a century old, the first house – Ackselhaus – has several themed rooms, ranging from a floral bridal room to a more male dominated gentleman’s drawing room. Even the non-themed rooms are imbued with a certain character and all come with personal kitchen facilities. The more contemporary house – Blue Home – (complete with lift) has been designed along a stylized aquatic theme, complete with a reflective garden water feature. As such, particular attention has been paid to bathroom facilities and materials used. While rooms are styled loosely along retro themes, splashes of colour come courtesy of the owner’s fascination with Indonesia. Great efforts have also been taken to maintain original features in the building – some dating back to the 19th century. The Club del Mar breakfast room opens up onto a wonderful terrace, perfect for warm summer mornings enjoyed with a strong coffee. The spacious outdoor garden can be reached via a small walkway over a water filled courtyard. Few hotels this side of the city offer rooms with this level of comfort and individuality – the Ackselhaus/Blue Home is an exception. Fantastic value.
