Agdal Gardens
These beautiful gardens in Marrakech were built in the 12th century during the Almohad dynasty. Agdal Gardens are located at the back of the Royal Palace, they comprise a vast (40-acre) area and orchards that incorporate pomegranates, figs, oranges, walnuts and vineyards. There are some pavilions scattered around Agdal Gardens but the showpiece is a huge pool right in the centre, which was once used for swimming practice by the sultan’s soldiers and claimed the life of at least one sultan. They were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 (along with the Menara Gardens).
