You don’t need to don a pink wig à la Scarlett Johansson to have a good time after the sun sets in Tokyo. But it will certainly help if you’re looking good when heading to Air – yes, another venue featured in Lost in Translation.
One of Tokyo’s hippest clubs, Air is a stylish urban space set beneath a restaurant on a quiet street in Daikanyama. Don’t be deceived by the name: as you descend into a deep basement, air is not the first word likely to spring to mind. The décor is, however, well designed in a hip urban style to match the cool young crowd.
Global and home grown artists from Francois K to Louis Vega play mostly house. Best of all? If the dancing gets too much, the peckish and the fading can surface for air and tuck into a late night snack in the ground floor restaurant.
