Akropolis
Akropolis is one of the city’s legendary venues offering Prague live music. Rough, ready and very popular with young Czechs, it’s set in a sprawling complex that houses (at street level) a canteen-style restaurant serving decent food and a concert venue that promotes both local bands and international stars.
If you voyage below ground-floor level you’ll find a basement club where DJs spin a variety of styles, from funk and hip-hop to techno and trance. The downstairs club is the primary space for weekends, and boasts two different areas: a smaller bar that tends to play harder beats or hip-hop, and a slightly larger area that favours a more funk/reggae sound.
While most Prague drinking venues are smoky, Akropolis’ smoke has a slightly sweeter scent, coming principally from the city’s spliffnoscenti. Shabby around the edges it may be, but the drinks are cheap, the tunes are good and it’s usually free to get in.
