A pop-up-turned-permanent restaurant from innovative chef Ari Taymor, Alma is a refreshing change from some of its larger and slicker rivals. Having finally found a permanent home in late-2012, Alma’s interior is understated, with clean-cut lines that give a surprisingly homely sense of minimalism. The 40 covers are much sought after as Alma is currently one of the hottest restaurants in Los Angeles.
The menu is a modernist take on seasonality that constantly evolves depending on on what’s in the local markets that day. Ari Taymor’s innovative flavour combinations and molecularly crafted dishes set Alma apart from much of LA. For dedicated foodies there is an eclectic tasting menu to try, providing an amazing insight into Taymor’s mind. For the serious there’s a chef’s table in the kitchen so they can really see what’s going on. As of writing there was no alcohol license – but there are a fun range of sodas developed in-house to choose from.
