Hg2 : The Hedonist

Aman Summer Palace

Set in the courtyards of the historic Summer Palace on the outskirts of Beijing, the Chinese Restaurant at the Aman resort is one of the capital’s most atmospheric dining experiences. The restaurant features both Cantonese and Imperial-style cuisine that is influenced by local and seasonal ingredients. This is the perfect place for dim sum and then some before visiting the Empress Dowager Cixi’s Marble Boat on the Kunming Lake next door. Shanghainese pork buns and steamed shrimp dumplings are always crowd pleasers. Chilled yam and sweet osmanthus makes a good appetizer followed by braised venison, an Imperial specialty. Braised minced and bean curd soup is also a warming home-style favorite. The platter of sweet & sour pork, a traditional Cantonese dish, is delicately tangy without being too syrupy, like you find in most Chinatown restaurants. If you’re out to impress, book one of the six private rooms surrounded by lush gardens and have the chef design a bespoke tasting menu.
