Hotels in Marrakech don’t come much more exclusive than this. Part of the Aman Group – one of the foremost luxury hotel chains in the world – the Amanjena is a have-to-see-it-to-believe-it kind of place, a Moroccan palace complex with Asian overtones set on the outskirts of Marrakech. The dusty pink walls enclose a wonderland of architectural splendour, including a postcard-perfect basin (ancient irrigation pool), 39 pavilions, six two-storey maisons and one fabulous suite. The rooms are a marvel to behold: imaginatively styled at great expense with flair and panache. Needless to say the Amanjena has every kind of exclusive facility and service you could ever need (or imagine) is on offer, from private pools and gardens to personal butlers, plus boutiques, spa, library, two restaurants, tennis courts and a fitness centre. Golfers might also enjoy the fact that the resort is next door to two of the city’s three main courses. As is to perhaps be expected, there is an overriding sense of formality at times, but it’s a small price to pay for the overall package.
