Antico
The short stretch of road along Bermondsey Street is fast making a name for itself as a pocket of new, fresh, casual eateries worth venturing East for. Case-in-point, joining the assembly is Antico, an intimate Italian launched by loyal local and ex-Theo Randall chef Nick Crispini. Sticking to the basics is never a bad thing when it comes to Italian, which is exactly what Antico does. Weekly changing ragus, risottos, freshly made pastas and house staples like prawn & squid fritti with olive oil and chilli, not to mention the home-made, flourless chocolate cake, sorbets and impressive list of Italian wines all come together perfectly, harmonising with Bermondsey’s friendly, neighbourhood feel. With floor-to ceiling windows, the open plan restaurant is light and spacious enough for a good amount of hipster spotting on the weekends. There is also a stylish downstairs bar, great for a negroni or two after a trip to nearby Borough market.
