Antoni Gaudi La Sagrada Familia
One can’t visit Barcelona and not see, even by default, the work of its greatest Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi. La Sagrada Familia is the city’s most monumental architectural achievement and a must-visit. Building work started in 1882 and it’s still not finished (but spend some time here and that won’t surprise you). Its estimated completion date varies from thirty to eighty years time depending on who you speak to but, finished or not, its unmistakable spires, irregular construction stones and never-ending detail is a literal assault on the senses, as is all his work. The new section is being constructed with slightly different materials than those which Gaudi painstakingly chose, much to the disdain of some locals, but it’s a magnificent building and a landmark of Barcelona.
