Arario Gallery
A short drive from Dashanzi 798 and Caochangdi is a smaller art district in a former liquor factory of which the Arario Gallery is undoubtedly the star. The Beijing branch of the famous Korean gallery, Arario occupies five buildings comprising 3,000sqm. Its three gallery spaces are dedicated solely to contemporary art and aim to bring Asian artists to a wider audience. Recent exhibitions have included an installation by Wang Jianwei, one of China’s most highly regarded conceptual artists and influential Korean ceramic artist Choi Jiman. They have also held several successful group shows by emerging Chinese artists. A little out of the way but worth the trip.
