Situated in a small 19th-century mansion house, this café definitely has an aristocratic air about it.
The seating is set out over two floors; upstairs is more formal and rather airless, but downstairs the modern dark wooden furniture and cream hues give it a smart, elegant and classic feel. The food at Aristokrat is Russian and French, true to the influences of the 19th century, and is reasonably priced.
Catering for those with a sweet tooth, the menu has a large selection of puddings, while a specific coffee menu entitled ‘Coffees from Around the World’ – as well as ‘Coffee-based Cocktails’ – makes allowances for the most diehard caffeine junkies.
In summer, a large open-air garden terrace with traditional wrought-iron tables and chairs acts as a great sun-trap – an unusual feature in the centre of the city.
