The Astana Park offers a refreshing change of pace and address with its convenient location right by the central city park and the River Ishim. The attractive, green-roofed building boasts several turrets and an airy, spacious feel within. The largest of said turrets houses a sweeping spiral staircase leading to the first- and second-floor rooms, the latter of which are tucked under the eaves, giving a rather cosy, attic feel. The 30 rooms are decked out in a relatively restrained style with plenty of polished wood and attractive bathrooms, and some have impressive views over the park. By contrast it seems that no restraint was exercised when it came to decorating the Emir VIP sauna complex (which can be hired out in its entirety by the hour) and the swanky Graff lounge bar, which are both decked out with acres of gold mosaic tiles. For a more sedate evening experience, there’s the alpine-themed Chalet restaurant offering European and local dishes, plus 24-hour room service.
