Aunties & Uncles
The former barbershop is a sanctuary for thrift store bric-a-brac and walks a fine line between shabby and chic, but it’s got great character. Having said that, the vintage posters, Formica tables, retro board games, books and action figures won’t induce much nostalgia in the young, flaky student crowd that flocks here for hangover food.
The super-cheap menu is a hybrid of American diner staples and French café favourites: croque monsieur and pan bagnat, breakfast tacos, banana pancakes and Belgian waffles. The ‘breakfast pocket’ is a popular sandwich with scrambled eggs, bacon, caramelised onions, garlic mayo and tomatoes. It can get cramped (the winter weekend line-up is lethal) so arrive early and allow yourself the day to digest.
