Baalbeck Int’l Festival

Set 55 miles west of Beirut, among Baalbeck’s atmospheric Roman temples, each July and August, the Baalbeck International Festival is a major cultural event on Lebanon’s festival calendar. Running since 1955, this is the oldest and perhaps the most well attended cultural festival in the Middle East. Performances include ballet and dance, opera, orchestra, theatre and popular music by both Lebanese and international artists, meaning that fans of both classical and rock music alike can find something to enjoy.

The atmosphere of the festival is electric, with some 40,000 people pouring into the dramatically lit Baalbeck Roman Acropolis, one of the largest and most well preserved temples of its kind in existence. In past years, the Baalbeck International Festival has attracted performers like Plácido Domingo, Ella Fitzgerald, the Royal Ballet, Miles Davis and the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra.
