Bab Hotel

The Bab Hotel sashayed flamboyantly onto the Marrakech hotel scene in style in January 2010, single-handedly changing Guéliz’s reputation as a haven for functional business hotels. Owned by the people behind esteemed Marrakech establishments like the Grand Café de la Poste, Bô-Zin and Yellow Sub (as well as the Cantine du Faubourg and the Princes in Paris), the standards here were always going to be high. Designed by Clémence Pirajean from London studio Hopscotch, it’s a thoroughly modern experience, embracing a slick black-and-white aesthetic, contemporary artwork hanging on the walls and hipster sounds by the likes of Massive Attack playing on the sound system. Bab Hotel’s rooms are correspondingly funky – spacious and well lit with large, comfy beds, mirror TVs and smart, sexy bathrooms. The ground floor offers a library area, excellent bar and a flamboyant restaurant area that serves up very good cuisine. It took a long time but Gueliz has at last got its very own Hip Hotel.
