A truly creative endeavour, BackYard is as much an artist’s collective as it is a place to shop. Found down a cobbled street in Prague’s Nové Město, this space offers you the chance to meet with designers and makers, grab a coffee, or purchase a one-of-a-kind piece. There’s everything from men’s and women’s shirts from Kristýna K. and womenswear from fashionwear label LEM, to Czech leather bags from Bodline and handmade jewellery from Nastassia Aleinikava. There might be backpacks from the Monolith Project, or sculptures by Tyformy. The only way to be sure is to go there and see for yourself.
Although that’s no big ask; BackYard is a lovely place to while away a few hours while you’re in Prague. It’s light and airy, with a curated collection of pieces dotted about the space, illuminated by spotlights and the rush of light from the large windows. Clothes racks are suspended from the high ceiling above and, looking down, even the floors are eye-catching, with a mix of monochrome tile and rough-luxe brick. Contained within this stylish space is a showroom, studios, workshops, and a presentation room where BackYard often hosts lectures and meet-and-greets with designers. In fact, BackYard hosts a whole programme of events, so you might get far more experience for your buck when you shop here.
