Bagels & Beans
The name tells you just about all you need to know about this small cafe chain, which serves up coffee and bagels (which are, otherwise, oddly tricky to find in Amsterdam) in cosy, Starbucks-but-cuter surroundings. There are 15 branches of this Dutch chain scattered about town, and while the size varies dramatically, the format is the same – good coffee, decent bagels and your choice of fillings. There are other sandwiches and sweeter treats, but that, in short, is the concept. The food is a notch above what you’d be served in your average neighbourhood cafe, which is perhaps why the chain has taken off. Other central branches include Haarlemmerdijk 122, Kinkerstraat 110, Keizersgracht 504, Raadhuisstraat 18, and Waterlooplein 2.
