Hg2 : The Hedonist

Back home when you get drunk and end up gorging on that near-fatal kebab after a night out you know that there will be no excuses good enough to assuage the guilt and shame that comes the following day. Here at least you can file the event as an authentic cultural experience, especially if you head to fast-food outlet Bambi on the corner of Taksim Square: the café is something of an Istanbullu institution, having served kebabs 24 hours a day since 1974. Its popularity is clearly demonstrated by its extraordinary and slightly sinister expansion down Siraselviler Caddesi, occupying as it does a string of shop fronts. Providing excellent material for field research in anthropological studies on intoxicated Turks (if you’re lucky a fight might break out), a trip to Bambi also offers cheap, fast and reliable kebabs.
