Hg2 : The Hedonist

A slice of Mumbai as it must have been several hundred years ago, the Banganga Tank is a religious lake surrounded by ancient houses that are still very much lived in. Banganga was built over a freshwater spring around 700 years ago.

With wide stone stairs on each side leading down to the water, there are some dilapidated temples on the edge. Banganga is still an active devotional site and the bells continue to ring and holy men chanting mantras draw devotees in to pray.

Also recommended as one of the best sights in Mumbai by Mortimer Chatterjee, founder of top Mumbai gallery, Chatterjee and Lal.
