Where does Eighty One’s chef Ed Brown like to indulge late night? Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich’s second slide into Spanish terrain, the teeny, tiny Bar Jamón next door to their other band of tapas tables, Casa Mono.

While it seems this spot is oft used as a wrist-watching respite until a table opens up at Mono, we suggest that you muscle your way onto a stool at the stainless-steel counter and stay put for chef Andy Nusser’s Catalan-inspired small bites of pickled sardines, duck liver and apricots, and Serrano ham slivered off on the antique Berkel slicer, and paired with their 15 or so wines by the glass.

Although don’t let the tapas-sized plates deter you from checking out the amazing Spanish 600-bottle list, which is like a Eurail pass to imbibing the Spanish provinces (and which won a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2008).
