Bar Lubitsch
Film director Ernst Lubitsch’s sophistication, wit, and style inspired the term “The Lubitsch Touch” – this namesake bar delivers on all counts, eschewing his Germanic roots for a funkily decadent Russian theme with an emphasis on riotous red décor and lots and lots of vodkas – 200 types to give your cocktail a kick worthy of the Bolshoi Ballet (the Cucumber Mojito is a house favorite, and the Strawberry Ninotchka is named for Lubitsch’s most famous film with Greta Garbo). Three distinct sections – the smoking patio, the bustling front barroom and bangin’ back room dance parlor – are always wall-to-wall with wastrels partying like they’re in a Bolshevik speakeasy. Just be prepared for Iron Curtain-long lines and overly KGB-ish security if you arrive after 11pm and consider slipping the doorman some roubles to ease your entry.
