Bar Me
In the 1950s, ’60s and right through to the ’80s this tiny cellar bar, one of the oldest jazz bars in Sydney, was frequented by all sorts of jazz luminaries – even Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughn. The days of listening to a crooner in a dingy, smoky bar with nothing but shelled peanuts to snack on are long gone – these days they have been replaced by surprisingly decent nibbles, from sharing plates to Italian gourmet pizzas. Sit back and soak it up – it’s intimate and there’s a real sense of history about the place, which is staffed by some truly passionate music-lovers. Call ahead to find out the schedule of cabaret, jazz and blues performances, order a whiskey and get toe-tapping.
