Hg2 : The Hedonist

Bayern, you had us at “Bavarian brasserie.” Throwing in “Israel’s first” just sweetened the deal. Found in the centre of Tel Aviv, this German-Austrian eatery specialises in sausages, schnitzel and beer. What’s not to love about that? All the “wursts” are represented on the sausage section of the menu, from Bratwurst to Schwietzerwurst, and come with buttery mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. And there’s a great choice of impressively-sized schnitzels that come served every possible way, including stuffed, sauced and salad-adjacent.

Speaking of salad; for those who lean towards the more waistline-conscious end of the gastronomic spectrum (the other end being, of course, those who worship at the altar of good German sausages and tankards of beer), there’s always the Bayern Style Salad which is all about leafy greens and delicate veg. Just perhaps avoid the slightly heartier sausage and mayonnaise salad (fantastically named the “Mayonnaise Wurstsalad”).

Beer isn’t the only option on the drinks list at Bayern (although a traditional boot of Löwenbräu is hard to pass up), with cider and spirits also available. And there’s a selection of beer snacks which, in true Bavarian fashion, are satisfying hefty (think: platters of meats and cheeses).

The dining room itself is a sleek, two-level space, with massive windows that flood it with light. And, thanks to industrial touches like painted exposed pipes and trendy tiled walls, it has a trendy yet inviting vibe from lunch through to dinner.
