Never has a venue been so accurately named: Beacher’s Madhouse is absolutely mental. Visitors to the club, having made it past the ever-so-exclusive door (disguised by trompe l’oeil stacks of books), enter a disorienting hall of mirrors before beholding the main room. Picture a large stage with red velvet curtains. Burlesque dancers. Little people, in costumes and suspended from the ceiling, delivering bottles from on high. Amazonians. Costumed characters. Monkeys. Perhaps at this point in the catalogue, you will stop noticing the particulars and begin to take in the entire madcap spectacle. Ideally suited for a night out with a few friends (as mentioned, entry is very exclusive so best bets are to pay for table reservations in advance), Beacher’s is one of those bucket list destinations: you can go to other dance clubs in LA, but this spot’s resolutely one-of-a-kind.
