Belgian Beer Café
No prizes for guessing what this place does best. Attached to Festival City’s two-in-one mega hotel, it’s the place to head for a Hoegarden, a slug of Stella or a dizzying (literally, if you try to taste them all) variety of yeasty nectar – in fact, if you like your beverages brown and bubbly, there really isn’t a better destination in Dubai. For a theme pub, it’s remarkably untacky and expensively done up, with wall-mounted bric-a-brac, tin signs and battered leather suitcases, lit by brass chandeliers. The Friday brunch – unlimited beer and breakfast from 11am, with piles of freshly-baked bread, pots of steaming mussels and artery-clogging delights appearing after midday – is heartburn-inducingly hearty. Oh, and the toilets are worth a mention for the fact that they look like they’ve been airlifted from a rural Victorian prep school.
