Hg2 : The Hedonist

Alain Ducasse is in charge here so, as well as everything else, you get to try his signature savarin au rhum, served with a choice of rums. Back to the beginning, though: Benoît is a piece of Paris history, a classic bistro founded in 1912, and has been preserved intact, its walls and banquettes the colour of cheese and claret. The menu sticks to tradition, too, featuring pâté en croute, snails, real cassoulet, and calf’s head; the Ducasse is in the details, such as phenomenally good bread, and petits fours served with coffee. It’s definitely fancy for a bistro, with prices to match, but there’s a nicely accessible lunch menu at ?34, which even includes the savarin au rhum.
